WAT & BITM August Canal Camp 2004

The main aim of the August Camp was to have an onslaught of laying bentonite and concreting.

We were taking delivery of 10 to 11 lorries a day of concrete, each lorry containing roughly 4.5 cubic metres of concrete.

AUG 2004
We have excavated the old road up to the tip and profiled the rest of the underwater shelf.
This is the finished underwater shelf. The gabion is being constructed. We have started the excavation of the winding hole. We have started the lining of the canal with bentomat and started to put concrete on top of it.

From the bridge to the winding hole has all been lined and concreted. This is more lining and concreting approaching the winding hole. This is a shot towards the winding hole. We have the winding hole to do plus another 100 metres after that. In this picture, you can see us attaching the bentonite to the wall and rolling it out ready for concreting.

Sep 2004: We did a pour of concrete and excavation went on Excavation near the end Oct 2004: we have cut all the lengths of bentomat and started lining. The excavator is lifting bentomat into place for us. It is much easier than us moving it by hand!!

Nailing the bentomat to the wall and pulling it into shape. Oct 2004: after we had laid the bentomat, we started concreting. The main bit of the winding hole is complete. Nearly finished. Just one more pour of concrete to go. The last pour of Phase 1.
