Stage 3 is the formation (and subsequent removal just prior to final opening) of a bund in the stop lock to enable the ends of the lock to be exposed for connection to the new works. This was completed over the October weekend working party with the assistance of BITM and only requires some additional tipping to give sufficient width for diverting the towpath and footpath as necessary.

October 2000: The bund in the stop lock marks the current end of the navigable canal. December 2001: Steel piles are lowered in the stop lock May 2003 : The ends of the old stop lock have now been keyed in to the new works May 2003 :As you can see from the two pictures, the new walls are higher than the original stop lock wall so we have put in blue nosed coping stones on a slight slope to join the tops of the walls.
